Liam & Coralie | Real Weddings at Bachilton Barn

Liam & Coralie's wedding took place in May 2022. Here's what they had to say about their wedding at Bachilton Barn!! It was beautiful day full of love and joy - here's what they had to say about planning their day at Bachilton!

How did you two meet?
After matching on Tinder we arranged to meet in the Hillhead Bookclub in Glasgow. Liam had arrived straight from work so was dressed in a full suit with a beer in one hand and reading a book in the other! We started chatting, mainly about film and TV, and hit it off straight away. Drinks turned into dinner, and here we are now!

What was it that made you choose Bachilton Barn?

We had been looking at venues for a while and nothing seemed quite right for what we wanted. We were recommended Bachilton Barn by a friend who had been a guest there and as soon as we saw the photos we knew it was exactly what we had been looking for. There are so many reasons why Bachilton was right for us. Firstly, having accommodation on site for the wedding party and close family was perfect as it gave us all an opportunity to enjoy the occasion for more than just the wedding day (and the hot tubs went down a treat!). In the venue itself, there were lots of different spaces and rooms which meant there were so many possibilities for what we could do. We were able to decorate the way we wanted which gave it a really personal feel and reflected us perfectly. Other venues we had looked at had felt a bit small, especially for ceilidh dancing, however, Bachilton felt spacious and was the perfect size for us. We also loved the Lochy room which has recently been decorated with comfy seats and sofas and gave our guests a space to relax and enjoy a drink while recovering from all the dancing! We loved the fact there was a gazebo outside next to the pond which is so picturesque and gave the option of an outdoor ceremony. The whole setting of Bachilton is beautiful and it was important for us to have a venue with exclusive use for us and our guests. This also meant that we were able to get some amazing photos not only in the venue, but around the barn itself.

What was important to you when planning your wedding?

There were a few things that felt important to us when planning the wedding. We wanted the day to feel relaxed and laidback and Bachilton provided the perfect setting for this. Being able to decorate how we wanted made the day feel really personal. We were also able to involve our family and friends in the planning process – Liam’s dad provided all of our signs and invitations, Coralie’s uncle played and recorded music for the ceremony, and all of our family gave us so much support and advice when needed.

Tell us about your big day! What was your favourite part?
Literally the whole day! We loved the ceremony and it reflected us perfectly. Having a Humanist ceremony meant it was really personal to us, and we were able to include some Scottish traditions including hand fasting and drinking from the Quaich. Although we had hoped for an outdoor ceremony, the weather was not good enough so we switched it to indoors and it couldn’t have been better. The Bachilton room was perfectly decorated, and our florist had decorated the wedding arch so beautifully for us to marry under. We loved the barn space where we could eat, drink and dance with our guests. It was the perfect size and looked incredible with the natural light and wooden beams. The food was delicious from start to finish, and our caterers were so attentive the whole day. We danced to EVERY song and ceilidh that played, our band were amazing, and it was so nice to be able to celebrate with everyone we love. All our guests have commented on how amazing the day was and we honestly couldn’t have asked for anything better!

What tips and tricks would you give to other couples planning their wedding?
I think the main thing that helped was organisation! We booked most of our suppliers well in advance to make sure they would be available on our date. This took away a lot of stress in the later stages of planning. Having a spreadsheet to keep track of payments was also really helpful – and to remind us when final payments were due! We would also say to just enjoy the planning stages as well! It all works out in the end, even if there are a couple of glitches along the way. There’s loads of things to enjoy with the planning including wine tasting, food tasting, decorations and DIY.

How are you enjoying married life?
We have had a great start to married life with a mini-moon in Palma where we sat on the beach remembering our amazing wedding day. We are also looking forward to a bigger honeymoon in America in a few weeks time. We are excited for all of our adventures yet to come..!
